Legal
License
End-user license terms for the NXStation software and its relationship to third-party components.
This page summarizes the legal status of the NXStation frontend application. The authoritative license text for the project source code is published in the GitHub repository LICENSE file.
1. The NXStation Application
NXStation is an open-source homebrew frontend (including its UI, UX, codebase, architecture, branding, and internal systems), excluding emulator cores and third-party libraries which retain their own licenses.
You may download, use, study, and redistribute NXStation in accordance with the project LICENSE. Commercial resale of unmodified or modified NXStation binaries as a paid product, paywall, or paid “packaged” distribution without complying with the LICENSE and applicable third-party licenses is not permitted.
2. No Bundled Copyrighted Content
NXStation does not contain, distribute, or bundle:
- Game ROMs, ISOs, or disk images
- Copyrighted BIOS or firmware files
- Proprietary Nintendo source code or system software
- Emulator cores (you supply RetroArch / libretro cores separately)
Users are solely responsible for ensuring they have the legal right to use any games, BIOS files, and cores they provide.
3. Independent Implementation
NXStation is an independent implementation. Conceptual inspiration from other frontend projects does not imply code, asset, or implementation reuse. No proprietary source code, internal assets, or protected implementation details from third-party commercial projects have been copied into NXStation.
4. Third-Party Open-Source Components
NXStation integrates or interfaces with third-party open-source software, including but not limited to:
- Libnx and Switch homebrew toolchain components
- Borealis UI library (and the xfangfang fork)
- libcurl, optional FFmpeg, and related libraries
- Emulator cores via RetroArch / libretro (GPL, MPL, or custom licenses as applicable)
Each component is governed by its own license terms, which remain fully applicable. This license summary does not override or replace any third-party license.
5. Assets & Media
Artwork scraped via ScreenScraper or provided by the user remains the property of the respective rights holders. NXStation caches media locally for personal offline use only. Marketing images and UI mockups on this website are credited in the site footer; rights holders may contact the project for attribution updates or removal.
6. Disclaimer of Warranty
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
7. Governing Principle
This page governs only the NXStation frontend application and website presentation of license terms. It does not alter, replace, or override the licenses of any third-party software, emulator cores, libraries, or assets.
NXStation is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Nintendo Co., Ltd.
